Description of Facility:
This 80 acre family-forward facility in Eastern Minnesota is home to a small group of talented dressage horses and a couple beloved pet mini-donkeys and a mule! This private farm is a true passion project of the family who owns and runs it, and keeps it to the absolute highest standards. The facility is split into two portions, a 40 acre main farm, and an additional 40 acres for a variety of expansion projects. The owners have some great goals in mind for the expansion and are hoping to find the right Director of Operations to help them grow to the next level.
Job Description:
We are beginning our search for an experienced Director of Equine and Facility Operations to lead this facility on the day to day, handle any emergencies, manage and develop a team, and grow this facility into the future. The ideal candidate will process a wide range of skills including the hands-on management of dressage horses and staff, to operating and maintaining farm equipment, and acting as the liaison for vendors and contractors coming onto the property. A keen eye for detail is essential, and a commitment to developing the facility at it's high standard of excellence are key points to be successful in this role. This is a family owned program, with ownership that is heavily involved in the operation of the facility and care of the horses - a willingness to work closely with farm leadership is imperative. Currently the farm has 3 full-time staff members in addition to the ownership, the executive team, and the typical vet/farrier support staff. Ideally we would love to grow that team, so a candidate who has experience in staff additions and retention would be excellent.
Areas of Expertise:
- Hands-on management of high-end dressage horses in training
- Meticulous care of equine facilities and stables
- Collaborative employee leadership (lead-by-example preferred)
- Grounds, Buildings, and Equipment Maintenance and Improvement
- Emergency Response
- Vendor and Project Management
- Excellent Communication and Listening Skills
- Learning and Adaptability Skills
In spite of the lofty title, candidates for this role must be willing to clean stalls and water buckets, groom horses, hand-walk horses, perform night check responsibilities, etc. And can not be bothered by a change in routine based on weather events or leadership plans.
