Retirement Ranch Manager or Couple - FL

Madison, FL 32340

Posted: 10/17/2023 Industry: General Facility Manager Job Number: 61 Pay Rate: $ 40000.00 - $ 45000.00

Job Description

Description of the Facility:
The owners of this facility come from a long history of famous Texas cattle ranchers and now have a beautiful 900 acre farm in the Big Bend Area of FL. Back in 2007 they sold out of the cattle business but rescued a group of horses from a kill pen in New York. Over the years they have been a forever home for many horses and the herd has winded down to 10 remaining members ranging from early teens to 30. These (Mostly OTTBs with a couple QHs) horses are never ridden, they are solely given the absolute best life possible on their 175 acre pasture section of this ranch. This is all of their final resting place, with a beautiful cemetary on site. Every single want they could ever have is taken care of here and the owners are looking for a person to put in charge of the farm. The horses has a very consistent and clear schedule, and the owner has set very clear expectations for her advanced and detailed horse care. "The Cottage" is a 1-bedroom home on property, a stones-throw from the main home on the property. The open concept kitchen and living room makes this private housing feel very welcoming.  A brand new roof, new paint, and some new touches are being finished to it after the property took a bit of a beating with the last hurricane.

Job Description:
As the Ranch Manager you will be responsible for the daily routine of the horses, twice daily feeding with supplements, sandclear, and medications, grooming, and love. You should have a keen eye to spot problems before they happen as these horses are in their elder years. Additionally but not required, the ideal candidate(or couple) would assist with the owner's housekeeping and meal prep as it's getting harder for her to be as hands-on as she would like. These horses are very much her children and she cares for them deeply! She has a social following of 1200 people who love the farm and love the mission they are after: "It's a mission, a lifestyle, to care for these horses. they have seen enough from the kill pens, this is their life now" Mending and checking fences, assisting with plumbing, light mowing with a batwing mower, and other farm tasks are included as this is very much a typical ranch management role. Racehorse knowledge is a plus as the owner will love sharing the horse's individual histories and personalities with you! If you are looking for a role where you can see "the bright lights of town" this is not the role for you. As the owner said, she comes from a history of cattle ranchers where the ranch managers stay at farms for decades, it's their life. Maybe time to live your retired Florida version of Yellowstone?
