This facility is located in a scenic valley near San Gregorio and boasts just about every luxury you could want in a facility. From their state-of-the-art barn to their premium arenas, you would be hard-pressed to find a comparable facility to work out of. They have a breeding facility, a young horse program, a sales program, and an eclectic variety of additional resident livestock! This well-staffed farm is typically home to 50-100 horses ranging from babies to seasoned Grand Prix horses. Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Show Jumping Trainer who will work with the existing team and Ranch Manager to develop this facility's string of young horses into quality competition prospects. This position will entail working with horses from 3-7yo from the early basics through the 1.35m Young Horse classes. There is a Colt Starter on staff, along with an Assistant Trainer to share the workload, but riders can expect to be on anywhere from 5-8 horses per day in this position. This is NOT a showing opportunity, other than the occasional schooling show. This is also a heavily team-oriented environment, so a collaborative mindset and willingness to put the horses first is essential.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train show jumping horses aged three years and older, incorporating flat work, jumping, trail riding, and conditioning exercises.
  • Lunge horses to prepare them for training sessions and maintain their fitness levels.
  • Maintain the fitness and well-being of all horses through regular riding, exercise, and fitness programs.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of experienced trainers to develop and train young show jumping horses, focusing on their training, fitness, and preparation for competition.
  • Occasionally groom horses for yourself before and after riding.
  • As needed, assist with therapy treatments, such as icing, wrapping, and other rehabilitative care as directed by the Equine Manager.
  • Occasionally handle daily horse care tasks such as turning horses out and bringing in, assisting with pasture rotations, and operating the horse walker.
  • Monitor equine health as needed, including assisting with injury treatment and bandaging. Communicate any health issues to the Equine Manager.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 10 years of equine with a focus on riding and training young show jumping horses.
  • Experience competing successfully in 1.35m classes and above.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of related distances and the set up of grid work to enhance the training of young horses for the sport of show jumping. 
  • Knowledge of safe work practices around horses with experience observing and reporting equine health and behavior.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be 18 years or older and authorized to work in the United States.
  • Physical requirements: ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift 80-100 lbs, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, flexibility, and adhering to ranch policies and procedures. 
  • Capable of riding 4 to 6 young horses on a daily basis.


Housing:

On-site housing in a studio apartment is available and included with this position.
If Off-Site housing is preferred, a housing stipend of $1600/month and a ~$300 gas allowance will be offered instead. 
**No personal horses or pets can accompany in this position**

Pay is $32-38 per hour
