https://jobs.equistaffpro.com/jb/General-Manager-Thoroughbred-Sporthorse-Middleburgh-Jobs-in-Middleburgh-Virginia/14210394

About the Facility
This beautiful, privately owned 14-stall farm in the heart of Middleburg, Virginia, is looking for an entrepreneurial General Manager to help shape its next chapter! The show-quality property includes an outdoor arena with a full jump course, two large pastures, 10 smaller paddocks, and an established team supporting a diverse group of competition horses, young Thoroughbreds, broodmares, retirees, and horses currently in race training.

The farm has spent the last 5 years operating as an A-Circuit H/J training facility, though the current trainer will be departing in November. At that point, the facility will have the freedom to move in a new direction based largely on the Owner's vision and the experience and strengths of the selected General Manager. The owners maintain active interests in Thoroughbred breeding, racing, young-horse development, sales preparation, aftercare, and developing a community within the local hunter/jumper, eventing, and foxhunting circles. Rather than committing to one rigid business model before finding the right leader, they are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual who can evaluate the opportunities, build the right systems, and develop the property into a financially sustainable equestrian operation.

Job Description
We are looking for a trustworthy, capable General Manager who can take ownership of the people, processes, administration, and business development behind this farm's future. The ideal candidate will be comfortable hiring, training, scheduling, and managing staff; setting clear expectations; resolving conflict; and managing emergencies.
The incoming General Manager will help guide the farm through its transition from A-Circuit Hunter/Jumper training to a more Thoroughbred and/or community oriented focus. The direction of the operation will be shaped around the successful candidate's strongest skills and most viable plan. That may mean building a new training program, developing the breeding program for racing stock in VA, beginning a 501c3 thoroughbred aftercare program, hosting clinics and local events, or creating a thoughtful combination of these opportunities. This is a rare opportunity for someone who brings ideas, industry relationships, sound judgment, and the practical ability to turn a vision into a working business. Some hands-on barn involvement should be expected, particularly during staff shortages or emergencies, but the primary need is for a strong manager of the overall entity - not another full-time groom or trainer as the facility also comes well-staffed in the supporting capacities.

Job Duties
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the farm, including staffing, scheduling, horse and client logistics, supplies, vendors, and administrative processes.
- Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, and, when necessary, discipline or terminate staff while maintaining a professional and collaborative workplace.
- Establish clear systems, schedules, care standards, communication procedures, and accountability across the team.
- Coordinate with veterinarians, farriers, hay and feed suppliers, manure-removal providers, contractors, and other service professionals.
- Assist with budgeting, invoicing, recordkeeping, expense oversight, and evaluation of pricing and profitability across the farm's programs.
- Assess available stalls, acreage, staff capacity, and local demand to recommend a practical strategy for sustainable growth.
- Collaborate with the Owner to develop and market the farm's next chapter, and promote it within the greater equestrian community
- Ensure consistently high standards of horse care, property presentation, client service, and workplace professionalism.

- Spearhead the planning, preparation, and execution of clinics/events
- Support social media, outreach, client communication, and promotional efforts as needed*

*Assistant Manager may be able to fill this duty

About the Facility

Situated on ~300 acres outside of the center of Santa Fe, NM, this beautiful private ranch is complete with a 10 stall barn, outdoor riding arena, and 8 miles worth of private trails for the resident horses and their humans to enjoy! Providing a forever home for the family's 3 horses, this ranch will soon grow to include cattle grazing on the pasture land and a small armada of donkeys to protect them (NOT under the equine staff's care!). Located less than 20min from the heart of Santa Fe, this property provides a unique blend of tranquil ranch living but convenient access to civilization!

Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate, experienced equestrian to join this facility as the Rehab Specialist of the owner's 3 forever horses. Aged in their early teens, the horses here have been trained up under Parelli principals, and do not have any competition goals or rigorous demands. Though after a particularly trying 2025, the team is in need of someone well versed in performance therapies and rehab work to strengthen the team and better the lives of the horses on-site. This person will be responsible for collaborating closely with the existing team and veterinarians to devise a rehab and ongoing maintenance plan for the horses, along with maintaining the highest standards of care alongside the rest of the team. The owner is open to exploring any devices/therapeutic modalities that this individual may be experienced with, including PEMF, Laser, Cryotherapy, myofascial release, training with a Pessoa rig, and more. With a typical work schedule running 7:30am-4:00pm just 4 days per week, there are generally at least 2 individuals working in the barn at all times. The ideal individual will have an easygoing personality and will be willing to collaborate closely with the existing team, but be accustomed to providing meticulous care for the horses at all times. This person must be well experienced in western riding principals, and have a gentle, horses-first mentality.

There is a team of maintenance professionals who handle all facility upkeep, fence fixing, etc - and the cattle and donkeys are not the responsibility of the equine care team beyond basic oversight in the event of an emergency. This is truly a position centered around providing the best possible care for the 3 horses on-site for the duration of their lifetimes!

This is NOT a leadership position. There will be no training or management of additional staff, and applicants MUST be willing to observe and adhere to the existing structures and quiet nature of the team here.

Schedule will be Sunday/Monday/Tuesday with the 4th day either Saturday or Wednesday, with a reasonable degree of flexibility depending on other staff. Ideally this position will begin Labor Day weekend.

Job Duties

- Feed horses - 2x/day for gain and 4x/day for hay

- Bring horses to/from turnout

- Stall Cleaning Daily

- Check horses' feet before and after turnout and working

- Groom and provide care for horses, including daily use of therapeutic technologies

- Collaborate closely with Owner and Veterinary team to devise rehab and maintenance plan for the horses

- Exercise horses both in the arena and on the trails on schedule in collaboration with the Barn Manager, Trainer and Owner ~1hr per ride, 2 horses per day

- Monitor for any signs of illness, injury, or various other equine ailments - and treat accordingly

*Ability to perform night check duties for additional income is possible!

This is a facility with incredibly high retention, most employees lasting 10 years or more. This facility primarily has top quality thoroughbred broodmares, foals and yearlings - though most of the breeding and foaling out is done in Kentucky. On average, the winters are on the quiet side and summers are the busy season at this farm with anywhere from 20-50 horses on site depending on the season. This farm prides itself on having very well adjusted and well behaved young stock, in no small part due to their consistent care and handling. This is the kind of position one can call home for many years to come!

Job Description

After 30 years with this quality thoroughbred breeding program, the General Manager is retiring, and we are looking for an exceptional individual to fill his shoes! Main duties of the position will be the oversight of care for the yearlings, foals, and broodmares on the farm, though there is generally a small number of racing age residents as well. All four members of the staff take part in the overall maintenance of the facility, including the General Manager. The owner of this program has been in business for 60 years, and dreams of developing a breeding program that will produce Book 1 Keeneland babies. There are 27 stalls on-site, and the owner hopes to have 10-12 stakeswinning broodmares producing 7-8 foals per year to sell or retain for racing. The majority of foaling is done in KY, but may occasionally be done in MD depending on the match. The General Manager will be the primary responsible party for first aide, scheduling, supply ordering, and general staff oversight.

Hours are generally 6:30am - 4:00pm Mon-Sat, with abbreviated chores on Sunday running 6:30-8:00am and 2:30-4:00pm. This facility is already well into development, boasting a 50 acre, lower level eventing course, 3 outdoor arenas and an Indoor under construction, a 12 stall pole barn and competition barn in the works, a couple of show series, and big plans for improvement! This is a team who believes in supporting their employees and providing opportunities for their team to reach their goals. Individuals applying for this job must be experienced equestrians first and foremost, but also share the kind and caring spirit embodied by the rest of the team at this facility.

This is a well-staffed, well organized equestrian operation under the leadership of a globally accomplished FEI equestrian. Applicants will be expected to partake in the daily care chores of the horses, though they will have the opportunity to shift their focus to teaching & training as the facility matures.

Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Stable Manager who can also take on increasing teaching/training responsibilities as the show teams develop! The ideal candidate will have a background in either the hunter/jumper or barrel racing disciplines - and will be a knowledgeable equestrian above all else. This person will be responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all horses on site, along with the management of their support staff. This individual will be given the opportunity to grow a lesson program in their preferred discipline - and as that program grows they will be able to decrease their time spent with care responsibilities and increase their time teaching.
